Effective people management in project environments

This workshop will help business managers and students to gain an in depth understanding of what makes an effective people project manager.

Project Managers are expected to deliver more with fewer resources, in less time and to higher quality standards than ever before. We see projects becoming dependent on the ability of project manager to manage people well in these working environments. There is a recognition now based on experience and research that people in projects really matter and that the success or failure of projects is dependent on the people skills of the project leader.

This course will introduce three specific people skills that are crucial to the successful delivery of projects: managing conflict, negotiating and influencing others. The adoption of these skills will enable you to take control of conflict situations, negotiate successfully by aiming for win-wins and influencing others in a positive way to help you achieve your objectives.

The course will involve lectures, whole audience and some interactive small group work to bring out some of the key messages.

Participants will:

• gain an understanding of the key underlying concepts around managing conflicts successful
• understand why we often fail in negotiations
• use some real project examples to practice the new skills in a safe environment
• take away some new key people skills
