Building Effective Relationships and What Makes an Effective ABC Manager

This one-day workshop will help students to gain an in depth understanding of how to build effective and long-lasting business relationships with people they work or interact with. The concepts of attitude, behaviour and competence are also discussed and how a good solid knowledge and understanding of these will help students to improve their managing people skills in future.
The market place world-wide has become complex. Many organisations operate globally and competition is fierce. Global trends in the way businesses now operate and work have had major impacts on organisations. Change is happening in more workplaces than ever before and at much faster rates. Customer expectations have increased as far as quality of products and speed of service is concerned. As a result, businesses need to respond to an increasing need for flexibility, productivity, strategy and leadership changes. This has had a major impact on managers and how they need to respond to these challenges by getting the most out of the people they work with and/or manage.
The main objectives of this course are to explore what managers need to do, practically, to build long-term relationships that are based on openness, trust and respect. This is not an easy task and will take time and commitment for mangers to succeed. The course will provide in depth insights why some approaches to build effective relationships work and why other approaches fail, and the reasons why. Students will learn some quick fixes they can apply in their lives immediately but will also be encouraged to take some longer term views, with advice given how to turn vision into reality. The social psychological concepts of attitude, behaviour will also be covered in detail, including what their relationships are, and how these can be used effectively to improve one’s own competences and those of others at work.
The course will involve lectures, whole audience and some interactive small group work to bring out some of the key messages. All practical examples are drawn from real work experiences from the Telecommunications, Construction and Defence industries.
